All Things Wild – planning proposal:-

• ATW are planning to re-locate from their current Honeybourne location to the Willicote Equestrian Centre. 
• Their stated aim is to at least double the 100,000 visitors they currently attract at Honeybourne, where there is rail station to London, Oxford, Reading, Worcester& Hereford.
• Their vision – to be in the ‘top 5’ largest wildlife parks by 2028. This vision would be more visitors than their 200,000 stated aim – in 2019 the 5^th largest wildlife attraction welcomed 732,672 visitors.
• Their plans for the Willicote Equestrian Centre include:-

• 1000+ car parking spaces with parking for several coaches 
• 9 large zoned areas, all lit as it is predominantly outdoors
• Site perimeter ‘prison style’ fencing and service road 
• Up to 45 guests lodges for overnight accommodation + 2 staff dwellings
• 2 x tobogganing slopes / amphitheatre / seasonal artificial ice rink / 4 retail huts / Café Covered picnic area / Play areas. 

Our concerns

• Significantly more traffic on the Campden Road; across Stratford’s bridges and junctions; across bridges at Welford and Bidford; increased traffic to radial roads to Stratford (Shipston Road, Banbury Road, Warwick Road, Birmingham Road, Alcester Road), and through villages inc. Binton and Welford. This on top of the ever-increasing volumes generated by other developments at Meon Vale, Long Marston, and across Stratford
• Increased light, noise and air pollution across several Parishes
• Developing c.80 acres of the existing Willicote Equestrian centre site 
• Decimation of the indigenous wildlife natural habit to create cages for wild animals…from the Artic, Australasia…Africa.
• An all-year-round theme park. Late opening until 20.00 during school holidays and seasonal events (Christmas, Easter, Halloween), increasing activity & noise, air & light pollution. It will pull retail, tourism and Christmas trade from Stratford’s efforts.
• The proposal is NOT in either of Stratford’s Adopted Core Strategy 2031, nor Clifford Chambers and Milcote’s Neighbourhood Plan 2031, and is contrary to both.
• There were c. 143 injury accidents (1999-2021) on the B4632 from and including the Waitrose roundabout to the north (with the A3400), to the Long Marston development roundabout to the south. That includes 5 Fatalities. Our community, and others served by the B road, know of the inherent hazards to this road (source Crash-map website, freely available online, being reported injury collisions informed by Department of Transport data)

On a glorious summer’s evening last Thursday, 2nd June, over 150 members of Weston subedge community, young and mature (!), gathered at the bowling green and village hall, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  We enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of tea and cakes, Pimms, a Hog roast BBQ, fantastic live music, and a whole array of fun children’s and adult games.  It was a wonderful way to celebrate and bring the village together, and also to enjoy the facilities that the village hall has to offer.

Our sincere thanks go to the Chipping Campden Community Trust (CCCT) for supporting our Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  The CCCT is a local charity helping and supporting the older and the more vulnerable people in the local North Cotswold community.  Thank you to the Parish Council and Village Hall Council for their support to make the event a success, and thank you to Becky White and her team for the delicious BBQ.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped prepare for the event; promoting the event, decorating the hall, the bowling green, setting up the marquee, games and tidying up the day after!  Lastly thank you to all the villagers who came and really got into the spirit of the afternoon, an event enjoyed by all.

Church, Castle and Folly

Tuesday 21^st June – Moderate 3.5hr 6ml

An ascent of Bredon Hill through fields and woods, taking in a little of its history. Great views on a clear day. Some steep paths, up and down. Please bring a drink and snack.

Exploring Winchcombe’s Ways 3

Thursday 23^rd June – Strenuous 5.5hr 10.5ml

Today we continue our exploration of some of the long distance paths through Winchcombe. Our walk takes us to the north and west along the Gloucestershire, Winchcombe, Cotswold Ways and an old drovers’ road. The route is undulating with two steep climbs. Bring drinks/snack and packed lunch.

Chipping Campden Town Walk – Every Tuesday and Thursday to the end of September – Easy 1.5hr

We will walk along the High Street and provide a historical tour of the town. From the granting of Campden’s Charter in the 1180s, the growth of the town and its magnificent buildings, to the arrival of the Arts and Crafts movement. Refreshments available in the town after the walk.

Start:  14:00 on Tuesdays and 10:00 on Thursdays. Meet at the Market Hall in the centre of town.

PLEASE use appropriate footwear as some walks may be steep and muddy in places. EASY – Length may vary but terrain is mainly flat(level); MODERATE – includes some hills and rough ground. STRENUOUS –  may be rough underfoot and ascents and descents may be steep. We welcome guide and hearing dogs – sorry, others not allowed.

Walks are free although we do invite donations to help fund our conservation and improvement work.

The bowling green offers a flat grass camping  surface with room for five campervans / motorhomes and ten tents.

There  is  no electricity but excellent facilities  for fresh water and chemical  toilet emptying. 

Grey water can be disposed of directly  into the drainage trough around the old bowling green.   

The surface area of the old green is 40 metres  by 40 metres  therefore offering a perfect camping surface.

There is a flushing toilet on site.

The Village campsite offers great country views with direct access  to all of the Cotswolds with great places to visit for example: Stratford-upon-Avon,  Warwick, Broadway,  Chipping Campden and Cheltenham to name but a few.

Facilities  locally Village bar and Seagrave  both offering  food and drink couple of minutes’ walk from the campsite.
